Update 5/4/17

Norman has come a long way and has really started to open up to us, he now will sleep next to us, and play with our dog. He probably will need to be crated when no one is home and throughout the night. We have tried multiple things but he still has accidents when he is not being watched. He is very stubborn and needs to go to someone with patience. If Norman doesn’t want to do something, then he won’t do it. He will bark outside for his own enjoyment and this is pretty important because he will do it all the time and if you have close neighbors, it could cause some issues. I’m not sure how he would do with cats. When I took him to the vet, he couldn’t keep his eyes off them. There is aggression with bones and he loves to tear up any stuffed animal. But he is just the biggest sweetheart!

*******Norman is now in a foster home in Brook Park, OH.  He is doing great, relearning some house training because he was kenneled for so long, but really hoping to find a forever home soon! Updates to come as they know more about him

***********Meet Norman! Norman is listed as 10 years old but you would not know it to meet this boy! He is still very active and peppy! His age is an estimate so he could very well be about 8 years old or so.

Norman came to OBHR from a rural shelter in Tennessee. They  had a special needs basset that no one wanted to take and OBHR stepped up to save her from being euthanized. Norman stuck out his hitchhiking thumb and came to OBHR with her, listed as a bloodhound. Norman may have some bloodie in him....but he is clearly a redboned coon hound and man he has the bay to prove it! He was hearthworm positive when we got him and has finished his treatment.

Norman is housebroken, crate trained, and LOVES to go on car rides. He is the perfect passenger if you travel a lot!He loves to fun and follow his nose so despite his age he WILL need a fenced in yard.

Now Norman is kind of hit and miss on if he gets along with other dogs. He was moved to a foster home for a few weeks where he did great with one of the other dogs, but not the other. Norman had a temporary foster home that said the same, he did great with her other 2 bassets, but not so much with the shitzu. When taken to the dog park a few times he did great with certain dogs, but there were a few dogs there that he just tried to dominate. Because of this Norman will definitely need a meet and greet with future fur siblings before going to a new home.

He is a large, gentle boy with a lot of love to give! Please consider Norman! He has plenty of love to give! He is currently being kenneled in Columbus, OH.
